What is Sound Healing?
Vibration is the fundamental origin of everything that exists and all systems attempt to reach a state of equilibrium. Scientific research is rediscovering this ancient belief as well as the wisdom that everything is interconnected. In fact, the common denominator in all things is vibration. Everything in the universe demonstrates the periodic change of state between polar and de-polar orientations. The first is the positive, outward going phase and the second is the negative, pulling back inward. When the time of the oscillation is short it is called a vibration and when it is long it is called a cycle.
Healing other people, or self-healing works by tuning in to a vibration and transferring it to where it is required, and as we are electro-magnetic beings we respond by using the new vibrations to bring balance and wholeness.
Sound is a type of energy that can create sacred space in which transformation can
take place. People are amazed after a performance at the feeling of peace and elation
in the atmosphere surrounding them; a feeling of bliss.
The gong is one of the oldest musical instruments in the world. Based on ancient
wisdom, the gongs vibrate at the same frequency as the body allowing the body to
heal itself. The sounds and vibrations of the gong create deep relaxation and a state
of meditation by altering the brain waves from a Beta (waking state) to Theta and
Delta (deep meditation). These are the frequencies that induce deep meditative and
peaceful states, clarity of mind and intuition. Science teaches that during these
brain frequencies we access our deeper subconscious and super conscious mind, and
they are key states for healing. It is possible, in other words, to foster healing
within ourselves by altering our mental and emotional experience.
Smiths travelling with monks across Tibet made singing bowls from copper and tin supplemented by local metals including gold, silver, mercury, iron and lead. Each bowl has a unique sound depending on its make up, size, shape and thickness. To many, all of life is sacred and when an item is made it is blessed and offered up so that spirit may enter. This way cooking or drinking utensils become as sacred as those used in ceremonies.
Singing bowls can also be seen as the union of male and female principles. The bowl as mother earth and the beater as the creative expression. To create sound you need both coming together. When this happens it produces a long, female, and a short, male sound. As the sound continues the two principles join together.
